lee greenway / vocals

Hazel, from Withernsea in East Yorkshire, and Harry, an Irishman from Londonderry, gave birth to Lee in Naroibi in Kenya in 1963. Harry’s love of country music and Irish folk and Hazel’s love of theatre and the arts were a major influence on Lee’s future choice of music as a passion, as was his Auntie June, whose career as a dancer in The Folies Bergere in Paris and in the circus inspired Lee to express himself very much in his own particular and peculiar way. He began to play

bass early on in life and also the various drums and percussion brought back by the family from Africa. His first band, The Warriors on the Edge of Time, led him on to his first performances and he has been in love with the stage ever since. Many bands followed over the years – Blabbermouth in Germany (where Lee lived for a time with a girlfriend he met on tour with the Fish), Squew Whiff in Nottingham and several others – but the Wholesome Fish family is his grande affair, Lee having fallen in love with Gordon’s voice the first time ever he heard its dulcet tones ringing along Noel Street. Spending much of his youth writing songs and recording them using two tape decks in his bedroom, it’s no surprise that the vast repertoire of the Fish now contains many of his strange and beautiful songs. Having a big gob and little fear of embarrassing himself (on stage at least), he adopts the Master of Ceremonies role with the Fish live and is still loving it – long may it continue!

P.S. He is the father of two beautiful boys and the uncle of three other treasures.
